Week 7: #17 New Technology
I came across this little gadget on a website called crazyaboutgadgets. I might have to really get one of these. You never know when you might lose your phone.
Losing your mobile phone or having it stolen is a nightmare, but losing your contacts numbers from your SIM card will cause a social meltdown! Fear not, the USB SIM Card Reader, one of the most invaluable gadgets has arrived at crazyaboutgadgets! Yes reader by name…reader by nature, the USB SIM Card Reader is a rather cute looking data storage gadget that allows you to backup your phonebook data, text messages and change your network provider all on your PC or laptop. Entering your friends names into your mobile is a painstaking exercise…unless of course you haven’t got any friends! It comes with its own software that allows you to back up all the data from your mobile phone onto your PC. Not only does the USB Sim Card Reader allow you to edit your contacts to keep them up to date, it also allows you to keep that library of text messages you’ve stored, edit your pin number and manage your passwords! The USB Sim Card Reader is a must and guarantees to provide you with complete peace of mind whatever happens to your mobile phone or sim card.
Technical specifications• Includes a PC address book.• Compose SMS messages, edit any contacts on your PC or laptop and send them to the SIM Master. • Free Windows software bundle.• No batteries required.• Hardware requirements: PC only: Windows 98SE, 2000, ME or XP. • Back up numerous SIM cards and store them all onto your PC.
I do look at other blogs and post comments. This week it is interesting in looking at all the new technology that people are finding and letting them know how cool their findings are.

Week 7 #13 Wiki
I have seen Wiki's before. I just never have tried adding or changing a Wiki. I tend to use Wikipedia often. It's more helpful to me. I see where you can edit. But never have attempted. However for this exercise I learned that it is possible to change the content of a site. I added my blog name to the ihcpl wiki. It was not hard. I will have to go back and explore some more. I like the idea that many people are adding suggestions for books, movies, and etc.

Week 6: #15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0
I like the idea that services are updated and reevaluated constantly. I think that change is good. Everything evolves around the patrons. If patrons want or need a certain item. With new technology it is possible to help the patron. I believe that one day there will be set up like Netflix. Now you don't have to go rent a movie it can be sent to you. So if libraries go to this type of system. It could be consider new for libraries. I know we have ILL but this would be different. Most people look on the internet at home rather than go to a library. I think patrons would like the idea that reserves could be mailed to them. I'm not a librarian but I think that the new generation of librarians accept changes and have ideas of their own. Patrons can already put there own reserves then come in and check the items out themselves with the self checkouts. I have seen so many changes with technology, everyday it is something new. I like change. Change is also a challenge to others but with the right training change will make a difference.

Week 6: #13 Tagging
I took a look at Del.icio.us and found it interesting. I don't know if I would really use it. You know old habits hard to break. I did not make my own account, however I might try at a later date. I looked at some of the bookmarks. Found some new interesting sites. I think this is an esy way to create bookmarks.

Week 5 #12 Library Elf
Its nice to know that the Library Elf will let me know by mail when I have something overdue or close to being due. This will help me out because I often forget what I take home. Especially when half the stuff I check out is not for me.

Week 5: #11 Library Thing
I have to admit this was an interesting assignment. At first I thought how can this benefit me. But as I looked more into the site I was able to get recommendations for other books similar to the ones I liked and plus get some feedback on the books. The rating system on the books was helpful. Sometimes it helps when someone else has read the book before you that way you can decide if you want to read an item now or wait and turn to another book first. My blog widget is located on the sidebar, scroll down and you can see it.

Week 4: #9 Finding Feeds
Okay at first I tried a few of my favorites but some did not have feeds to subscribe to. Then I looked at Feedstar. I found some interesting feeds to look at. I was able to add them to my bloglines account. Feedstar was fairly easy to use. I will have to go back to it to see what else I can find. I might delete some of the existing feeds I have on my bloglines and add some new feeds.
